In life, we have milestones. First birthdays, starting school, turning 16, graduating from high school, and turning 21 are all examples of milestones in an individual’s life. In Heroes Gate, we have some similar milestones. Celebration of Life, which is child dedication, is the first milestone in a child’s life at church.
What is COL?
Baby dedication and child dedication are the act of giving back to God the gift he has given you as parents. It is an act of worship, thanksgiving, dependence, trust, and commitment. The practice of child dedication has been modeled throughout the Bible.
Why do you dedicate instead of baptize?
We at Woodland Hills Church believe the Bible teaches that baptism should take place after a person has made a personal choice to follow Jesus Christ. Faith is not passed on to a child through dedication; rather, in a dedication, parents are making a commitment to raise their child in the training and instruction of the Lord with the desire that one day their child will choose to become a Christ follower and be baptized. We believe baptism is a statement of faith of the individual while dedication is a statement of the faith of the parents and their desire to model their faith to their children.
Children are such a precious gift. In Heroes Gate, it is our mission to partner with you as parents with the goal of nurturing your children spiritually. COL is a beautiful marker of the commitment parents make to do their best to model and provide opportunities for their children to learn to know Jesus.
Our next dedication will be held on November 5, 2016. This dedication is full. To sign up for our February or May dedications, go to http://whchurch.org/ministries/heroes-gate/baby-child-dedication
